FAQ
Questions, answered
How accurate is photo calorie counting?
Photo estimates are a fast, sensible starting point, not a lab measurement. Accuracy depends on the photo, hidden ingredients like oil and sauces, and portion size. That's why every item has a portion slider and you can correct the meal in a sentence. Consistent, quick logging beats perfect logging you give up on.
Do I need to download anything?
No. PortionSnap runs in your phone's browser on iPhone and Android. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
How does the quiz work out my calories?
It uses your age, sex, height, weight and activity level with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, a widely used way to estimate daily energy needs, then adjusts for the pace you choose. It never sets a target below a safe minimum.
Can I log meals without a photo?
Yes. Type something like “greek yogurt with berries and granola,” or tap the mic and say it. Both are just as fast.
Is this medical advice?
No. PortionSnap is a tracking tool. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, have a history of disordered eating, or take medication that affects appetite, talk to your doctor before changing how you eat.
